China probably launched more than one DF-21D missile: Expert

It was reported by NBC on July 2nd that China launched at least one anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) to South China Sea in last weekend.

According to the navigational warning issued by Chinese coast guard authority, the prohibited area was to the north of the Nansha Islands and south of the Xisha Islands, which was about 1000 kilometers away from South China.

And DF-21D missiles are believed to have been allocated in the Southern War Region of China, as such missiles were reported by CCTV-7 “Military Report” on February 12, 2016, when they have just held a military exercise there.

Anonymous Chinese military expert believes that DF-21D could be launched from some location of Guangdong province this time, targeting South China Sea.

He also believes that if the trial launch of DF-21D is true, it would rather be a practical military drill than a scientific test as often described by spokesman of China’s Ministry of Defense. And the number of missiles launched was probably more than only one.
