J-16 mounts YJ-83K anti-ship missile in training: to block Taiwan Strait at any time

Recently, a picture of the Du Fengrui brigade J-16 fighter-bomber in the Eastern Theater attracted outside attention. The figure shows that the J-16 fighter-bomber mounts YJ-83K anti-ship missiles, indicating that J-16 has been able to launch anti-ship missiles and hit surface targets.

J-16 is a new generation of domestic fighter-bomber aircraft. According to Dingsheng 007 Brothers, the biggest feature of the aircraft is that it is equipped with an onboard active phased array fire control radar (AESA). In addition, it is also equipped with integrated avionics systems, laser inertial navigation / satellite navigation systems, and integrated electronics.

Its airborne weapons include PL-15 mid-range and long-range active radar-guided air-to-air missiles, PL-10 infrared imaging-guided combat air-to-air missiles, precision-guided bombs, and air-to-ground missiles, and thus has strong air combat capabilities and precision strike capabilities against the ground. But this is the first time it’s shown that J-16 could launch a YJ-83K anti-ship missile, of course, this is not difficult for the fighter.

J-16’s onboard AESA has advanced performance and has a wide range of ground and sea working modes, which can provide target instructions for anti-ship missiles. J-16 also uses integrated information processing and a digital external weapon management system, which can easily increase types of weapons, and it is very easy to add YJ-83K anti-ship missiles. According to overseas data, domestically produced J-16 fighter bombers are mainly equipped with the Chinese Air Force.

The Chinese navy aviation has not been using it for the time being, so this J-16 fighter-bomber should belong to the Air Force. In fact, the outside world has previously noticed that the Chinese Air Force JH-7A has been equipped with YJ-83K anti-ship missiles for training. So it is not surprising that J-16 fighter-bombers mount YJ-83K missile.

Therefore, this picture also shows that the original clear mission boundaries of the Chinese Air Force and the Navy Air Force have disappeared, and both sides are expanding to the other’s field, that is, the Chinese Air Force has started training anti-ship subjects, and the Chinese Navy Air Force has strengthened its precision strike training on the ground.

With the development of China’s domestic airborne weapons, it is speculated that the Chinese Air Force will also equip J-16 with more and more advanced weapons, such as supersonic anti-ship missiles, stealth defense missiles, small-diameter guided bombs, and even hypersonic attack missiles and more.
