Xinjiang Military’s Type 15 tanks fire new armor-piercing shells which can penetrate Indian tanks

China Military Television Network released footage of the first live-fire of Type 15 light tanks from the Xinjiang Military Area Command on February 9.

In the picture, the appearance of the 105 mm long rod tail stabilized tungsten core armor-piercing projectile aroused attention. The black coating of the armor-piercing projectile indicates that it is live ammunition, and this type of armor-piercing projectile is powerful enough to penetrate the armor of Indian T-90 tanks. The same APFSDS ammunition for Type 15 tanks was seen in an exercise of the Tibetan military area last year.

The report said that the tank is equipped with advanced hunting and annihilating fire control system and has a hit rate of more than 97 percent.

According to the analysis, the projectile cost about 50,000 to 60,000 yuan per shell, and the ammunition alone for the live firing cost more than 1.8 million yuan.
