J-16 fighters conduct combat training with PL-15 missiles

According to a recent report on the official site of the Chinese military, a brigade of the Eastern Theater Air Force organized a multi-batch flight training on Feb. 16. In the pictures, the “Du Fengrui heir” unit’s J-16 fighters, equipped with two indigenous WS-10 engines, carrying PL-15 medium- and long-range air-to-air missiles and PL-10 close-range air-to-air missiles on combat readiness duty in the Taiwan Strait, took off for training.

The PL-15 missile, with a range of 150 to 200 km and even rumored to be 300 km, is believed to be a threat to F-35 fighter.

The unit participating in the exercise is the “Du Fengrui heir” unit, which was transferred from the original Division 14 Brigade 40 Squadron 1 “Du Fengrui Squadron” and is the main force on the front line of the Taiwan Strait. The unit was previously equipped with the first batch of J-16s and subsequent batches of J-16s, the second best-equipped unit in the Eastern Theater of China, second only to the J-20 equipped “Wang Hai Brigade”.
