An unnamed retired Chinese officer recently broke the news on the Internet that all of China’s active-duty escort ships have been given the mission and capability to use naval guns to support landing operations against the land.

And with the successful development of the YJ-18 land-attack cruise missile and electromagnetic railgun, the navy’s ship-based land-attack methods will no longer be limited to traditional naval guns and can attack targets hundreds of miles away.

The officer also stressed that even from a conservative standpoint, the Chinese military is already absolutely certain to win any war in the surrounding waters – within the first and second island chains.

Besides, the Chinese media Global Times recently quoted an expert as saying that the Chinese army already has the ability to seal off the entire area of Taiwan’s main island and carry out a siege.
