In response to the severe rainstorm and flood disaster in Shulan, Jilin province, the Northern Theater has mobilized a thousand personnel from the 78th Group Army, equipped with various types of search and rescue equipment. This group was dispatched to Shulan to carry out relief work and dredging operations.

The Chinese Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management, recognizing the urgency of the situation, have allocated CNY 350 million in disaster relief funds. These funds are designated to support disaster prevention and relief work in Heilongjiang, Jilin, and seven other affected provinces.

The disaster has taken a severe toll, even leading to the loss of public officials involved in relief efforts. Three out of four officials reported missing have been confirmed deceased. Among those lost was Luo Xudong, a standing member of the Shulan Municipal Committee and the Executive Deputy Mayor. This tragic loss underscores the severity of the situation and the risks faced by those on the front lines of the disaster relief operations.

In total, the central finance has earmarked CNY 520 million for disaster relief, which includes the previously allocated CNY 170 million. The Ministry of Finance has called upon the provincial finance departments to promptly disburse these funds, with careful supervision, to ensure maximal effectiveness in reducing casualties and property loss.

As the country mourns the losses and the people of Shulan city strive to recover, the Northern Theater’s 78th Group Army continues its extensive efforts on the ground, showcasing the nation’s commitment to aiding its people in times of disaster.
