The Sino-Indian border is becoming more tense, as an Indian soldier fired the first shot between China and India in the past 45 years. According to Colonel Zhang Shuili, spokesperson for the western theater of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, “on September 7, the Indian troops illegally crossed the line into Shenpao Hill area on the southern bank of Pangong Lake in the western section of the China-India border…and fired threatening shots at Chinese border guard patrols who had gone out to negotiate, and the Chinese border guards were forced to take countermeasures to stabilize and control the situation on the ground.”
According to the “Border Agreement” signed by China and India, neither party may fire within two kilometers of its own side of the line of actual control. A news went viral on the Chinese social media saying that the Indian soldier who fired the first shot was shot in the head by a Chinese sniper, and well-known military Weibo accounts such as Wei Yue Qinyu, Weapon Dimension, and Situ Kong reposted the rumor.
It’s also rumored that an armored convoy of the Chinese troops rushed over to “stabilize the situation on the ground”, and an unmanned aerial vehicle was sent to fly over a deep ring road in the Indian side.
