Chinese President Xi Jinping recently concluded a tour of Fujian Province, after analysis suggested that Xi would likely inspect the front-line troops responsible for seizing Taiwan island.
However, Xi did not do so, but inspected the armed police forces stationed in Fujian. China’s CCTV reported on March 26 that President Xi inspected the Second Mobile General Force of the Armed Police in Fujian on March 24.
CCTV reported that Xi Jinping attaches great importance to military training and preparation. During the inspection, he went to the training ground to observe the operation and use of anti-explosive equipment, chemical defense reconnaissance and decontamination, construction machinery application operations, and bridge erection training. And Xi required the armed police force to “adhere to the bottom line thinking, strengthen task coordination, improve the plans, and improve the force prepositioning, to ensure that it can quickly and effectively respond to any situation and complete any tasks assigned.”
The Armed Police are known to be used to maintain domestic order in China, including for counter-terrorism tasks, so Xi’s inspection of them implies that the front-line combat troops are ready to seize Taiwan, and that what needs to be considered now is how to maintain social order on the island after the occupation.
