CSIC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited) ’s 701 Institution yesterday published an article entitled “A Love Letter to 10,000-ton One”, revealing information about Type 055 guided missile destroyer, including that it is using some homemade propulsion technology, which is new and unique in the world, indicating that China’s surface ship propulsion system has reached the international advanced level. This propulsion technology is not described in detail in the article, but it was presumed in August 2019 that medium-voltage DC electro-pushing system will be used for the second batch of Type 055 destroyers.
According to the article, the first ship of Type 055 guided missile destroyer Nanchang was officially listed so that the Chinese navy destroyer achieved a leap from “third to fourth generations”. Some people quoted in the article claims that, under technology blockade and embargo by Europe and the United States, they began the trek of homemade weapons and developed a new propulsion system. And in its application, the sailing operation has been stable and reliable.
Furthermore, according to a deputy chief engineer, from the user’s perspective, the performance of Type 055 guided missile destroyer is at the forefront of the world in terms of platform and combat; and from the designer’s perspective, continuous innovation with no reference and step-by-step exploring this type of destroyer are something they are proud of.
Another deputy chief engineer said that Type 055 guided missile destroyer can be regarded as the world’s most advanced in terms of application and supporting facilities. And the follow-up idea is to make better products. Others said that Type 055 guided missile destroyer used the most number of new things.
