Ashgabat — Eight FK-2000 vehicles rolled through Turkmenistan’s Independence Day parade on 27 September 2026, the first time the type has been shown in public there. China Daily, citing the parade column, put them behind three other Chinese-built air-defence systems already in Turkmen service: FD-2000, KS-1A and FM-90. The same report called Turkmenistan the fifth FK-2000 operator, after the United Arab Emirates, Chad, Ethiopia and Sudan. Official Ashgabat language treated the vehicles as inducted, not as a display loan.
The photograph is a short-range gun-and-missile truck. The industrial fact is the stack. A Central Asian air-defence force that used to be described around Soviet Pechora and S-200 batteries is now buying Chinese kits at more than one range band from the same supplier family — and adding the last kilometre as a single 8×8 vehicle instead of a towed gun and a separate missile battery.
1. What One FK-2000 Truck Actually Carries
Designer copy, as restated by China Daily on 28 September, is a CASIC all-weather short-range system that can fire guns, missiles, or both. Open technical summaries that match the parade vehicles describe an 8×8 chassis with its own radar and electro-optical suite, a dozen missiles and two six-barrel 30 mm cannon on the same hull. Published envelopes put aircraft and helicopters out to about 25 kilometres and cruise missiles or precision-guided munitions closer — around 10 kilometres in the same write-ups. The vehicle is advertised as able to search and shoot while moving at up to 40 kilometres an hour.
That last sentence is the mechanism. A towed anti-aircraft gun has to stop. A battery that splits radar, missiles and guns across three trucks has to keep those trucks talking. FK-2000’s export pitch is that the search, the decision and both effectors sit on one set of wheels, so a column covering a gas field or a parade route does not wait for the radar truck to catch up.
Designers also say the electronics can be adapted to a buyer’s own interfaces. That matters more in Turkmenistan than a range table. The parade order already includes FD-2000, KS-1A and FM-90. If those nets do not speak to the new truck, the buyer has bought a fourth isolated island. If they do, the short-range layer is a plug-in.
2. Why the Column Order Is the Story
FM-90, KS-1A and FD-2000 have been in Turkmen service since the mid-2010s. Putting FK-2000 immediately behind them is how Ashgabat showed the upgrade is a layer, not a replacement. Long-range HQ-9-family systems (FD-2000 is the export label commonly attached to that class) still do the high and far problem. FK-2000 is for the drones, helicopters and cruise profiles that leak under that ceiling.
Five export customers do not make a mass-market hit. They do show CASIC selling the same gun-missile truck into the Gulf, the Sahel and now the Caspian rim. Quantity bought by Ashgabat has not been published. Eight vehicles in a parade column is a lower bound for what was willing to be driven past the stands, not a contract total.
3. Limits
Parade footage is not a live-fire scorecard. Engagement ranges above are designer and secondary figures, not a Turkmen test report. Whether the new trucks are already on the same command net as the older Chinese batteries is not in the 28 September official notes. Treat “fifth operator” as a China Daily count of known users, not as a customs ledger.
Bottom line
Ashgabat did not unveil a secret missile. It put a Chinese last-mile truck into a column that was already Chinese at three other ranges. The factory product is one vehicle that carries radar, missiles and guns. The sales product is a layered catalogue a buyer can keep adding to. Watch whether later Turkmen exercises show the FK-2000 moving with the older batteries, or sitting in its own paddock.
